Sneak peeks at some of the rich #3D #forestinventory data being shown at #ForestTECH2020, collected by our Emesent #Hovermap SLAM LiDAR units and processed into #forest #yield using Interpine’s customised #deeplearning algorithms.

Over 300 people attending the conference either in person or virtually over 2 days in Rotorua, New Zealand. Many got to experience our virtual reality view of the forest collected with our Emesent Hovermap SLAM LiDAR, and see the latest generation of industrial heavy-lift and advanced drones such as the DJI Matrice 300 fitted with the Hovermap LiDAR payload and the DJI T16 Spray Drone.

2020 has seen Interpine combining next-generation LiDAR sensors like the Emesent Hovermap, virtual reality allowing humans to train AI, and finally, the evolution of this artificial intelligence with deep learning for tree measurement and segmentation. Our GM/Director, David Herries presented our work in the use of heavy-lift drones, thinning assessment for stocking, and LiDAR based field forest inventory.  Much of this work would not be possible without the collaboration with our many research partners and clients on both sides of the Tasman.

The week concluded with a workshop at the Rotorua office where we demostrated both drone and backpack based capture in a forestry context, measuring a radiata pine forest plot just behind the Interpine head office.
