Interpine undertakes a LiDAR quality assurance audit in every LiDAR inventory project, to ensure the data produced meets acceptable standards. An audit is initiated within 30 days of final data delivery, the main objective is to ensure the data produced is accurate.
A workflow process is applied to identify issues in the dataset, if these issues are not corrected on time it could create downstream problems. The data is checked to ensure the areas of interest are:
-
Covered properly.
-
Flight lines match correctly.
-
Coordinate system is defined.
-
Tiles are classified according to the standards.
-
All points in a tile are inside the boundary.
-
Pulse density across the area of interest meet the specifications.
-
Right file formats are supplied.
-
And any other inconsistencies are identified.
The final quality control report shows a check list of items reviewed. The report explains any corrective actions.
Below are some of the inconsistencies found across datasets provided by airborne suppliers in recent years:
All these errors were reported to the provider to be fixed inside the accorded time frame. Any errors found after this time will be corrected by Interpine.
To increase the success of any LiDAR project we must be sure any anomalies are not present in the dataset. Producing a good quality control report increases the success of LiDAR inventory results.
